Monday
The Wee Tiki Tour has come to an end and it's time to pack our bags and load ourselves back into the Toyota. I emerged from the hotel in the morning to lend a hand with bags and bikes only to be sent back to "do better", turns out my fly was undone, my shirt on inside out and I wasn't being very helpful, this is not particularly unusual - I am not a morning person.
Upon arriving back at Kees and Julies we find that there has been some water through their garage and our bike boxes have gotten wet, while Kees, Jane and Andrew wash bikes and shoes Julie and I head to the local bike shops to pick up bike boxes...you know how people tell you this is a piece of cake - this is a lie. The first shop had no boxes and the second one only had one, Julie and I resorted to rummaging in the recycling to find a recoverable box.
After a speed packing job and a few miles of packing tape ( sorry about the extra boxes and packing mess left behind we will be better practiced at it next time and have proper bike bags ) Kees dropped Andrew and I at the Airport in plenty of time to catch our flight. I'm happy to report that our bikes and our selves arrived safety back in OZ.
Lessons learnt on the Wee Tiki Tour; If you want to go down hill you have to first go uphill. What is referred to as a hill in NZ is a MOUNTAIN. Don't be fooled by the term a Wee Doddle, this is not a confused and incontinent poodle. Don't tell New Zealanders that it will be fine for them to just wear thongs this can be embarrassing for all involved.
Thanks for putting together such an excellent adventure Julie.
Bring on the next Wee Tiki Tour I can't wait!
